We are all interconnected. What you do today, right now, matters the most. You are creating and influencing the world around you at every moment so take a deep breath, smile and shine light into your sphere of influence. It's how we can all make the world a better place. ~Zeke of Bodhicitta

Flickr Project 365/ Creative Every Day 2011After a week filled with dress rehearsals and late night performances, Emma finally zonked out yesterday in between her "bright and early" morning color guard practice and the color guard competition that followed into the night.
We're letting her sleep late today!

2011 85/365 Wonka!
Wonka!
Flickr Project 365/ Creative Every Day 2011Emma performed in her middle school's production of Willy Wonka this week.
Today's photo is a shot of the flowers we gave her for good luck. You can also just make out the playbill for the show.
It was incredible! Everyone was fabulous. Bravo!
Emma had such a great time and hopes to participate next year as well.
Emma played a Candy Kid...
...an Oompa Loompa...
...and she shrunk Mike T.V.
Shooting the action in low light without a flash was a real challenge!
I did get some "keepers" though
(I have to make an adjustment to get them to appear clear here, but am running out the door to a camera workshop - so for now, you have to click each photo to go to the flickr page to see these clearly.)

Barefoot in the Snow!
Flickr Project 365/ Creative Every Day 2011
Early spring in New England means we still may get snow - it just melts quicker!
Annie enjoyed a quick barefoot venture out on our deck yesterday as snow began to fall.
Thankfully the heavy precipitation missed us and hopefully we can quickly
return to the business of warming up.

No self-respecting 365-day project photographer can miss a
good early Spring crocus shot!
Such hope in this little flower.

Travelling Tulips
Flickr Project 365/ Creative Every Day 2011Happy Spring!
Tulips, mmmm, so nice!
I picked these babies up at the Whole Foods I passed on my recent trip to acquire this:
My new camera/purse bag.
Which I found at Milford Photo.
And, which I love.
And, that should be it (for now) on the camera spending!
Whew!
Belly-button lint weaving would have been a MUCH cheaper hobby!
Think of it ~ 365 days of belly-button lint creations!
OK, well, maybe don't think about that.

Flickr Project 365/ Creative Every Day 2011Just playing with the new camera...getting to know it's settings and such.
The other night there were wispy clouds which added to the scene.
I think the moon looks like a pearl in these photos.
It's such a treat to be taking photos of such beauty!

Poised
Flickr Project 365/ Creative Every Day 2011These sneakers captured my eye, as they wait on the deck ~ showing the marks of last year's playful moments and sitting poised for fun in the warmer weather to come.
In this shot I'm playing with depth of field, something I learned about at the last
Mid-CT Photography Meetup meeting. This photo achieves a quality that I had noticed in other people's photos, but was yet unable to make happen with mine. There's a crisp/popping-ness and a "roundness" to the subject -- like I can start to see around the sides, there's more dimension. Is that the depth of field? Or something else?
Is it something I did or is it this camera's abilities over my point and shoot's abilities?
Could it be focusing on the subject in the foreground and blurring out the background?
I'm enjoying having more questions than answers and having new things to explore!

2011 76/365 View from a Migraine
View from a Migraine
My new BFF, Nikko*, arrived yesterday.
I was home sick.
Luckily, in addition to modes such as "landscape", "portrait", and "night time",
Nikko also has a "migraine" setting.
I was able to snap the bedcovers and the drawn curtains before falling back to sleep.
Already this morning, I can tell this migraine has loosened its grip on me.
It was a doozy!
I'm looking forward to rejoining the world - although I'm a bit nervous about triggering another episode. I don't get boring old headaches, I get these fancy numbers that convince me and and those around me that I'm dying.
I'll be happy when this one is far behind me.

Grounded
Flickr Project 365/ Creative Every Day 2011Whew, I have been feeling a bit too much "unraveling" and "whirling about"
these past couple weeks.
So, I laid down on the living room floor to help get some grounding.
Ahh, that's better!
What a simple, yet powerful way to soothe the
feeling of unraveling and whirling about.
While I was there, lying on the floor, I shot this photo.
And, I'm liking it!

2011 71/365 Getting to know you
So, it seems I've taken to this photography hobby. After 14 months of continuous shooting, I've decided it's time to start learning more, connecting to other photographers, and broadening my horizons. Although, I am aware that I need to be careful not to overwhelm myself right out of it. Baby steps, I love baby steps! This month, I baby stepped into a workshop at a local camera shop and then, a couple of nights ago I attended a Meetup of local photographers - the topic of which was "macros" for which I have a great affinity.
So, good. Great! Moving along. The Meetup was, in particular, an incredible experience. I was on cloud nine the whole ride home. I even stopped to take a photo or two on the way home, just for fun and fooling around. And, then, in the driveway, as I gathered my bags, my camera came out of its and was launched into midair.
Down it came with a crash.
And, that was that.
So, now we are investigating how to go about replacing it. I may even step up to a DSLR.
In the meantime, I'm borrowing Paul's Canon Powershot.
Yesterday was the first day I fooled with it - getting to know it. I was also fooling with some of the tips and tricks I was shown at the Macro Meetup, specifically depth of field.
I expect to find that my broken camera opened a door to a new chapter
in this hobby of mine.

Goddess in the Grasses
Flickr Project 365/ Creative Every Day 2011This photo is a digital variation of an original intuitive, touch painting
I created on Monday afternoon.
I needed to process some "stuff" and this just felt right.
It is a large canvas and I haven't been able to catch
the whole of it with my camera just yet.
So today's photo is a preview of sorts, while I continue to work out issues of
the light and the glare, the angle and the capture.
Do you see her?
There's a goddess in there, among the grasses, sitting with Spring.

Getting there
Snow's been melting!
This morning, I overheard Annie excitedly calling to her sister (in whispers as Paul and I were still sleeping), to come see the grass in the front yard!
It's been a slow melt, but we're getting there!
Today's photo was shot on the rail trail in Cheshire, CT.

2011 64/365 Ouch!
An unexpected turn of events occurred yesterday.
Emma was selling ads for her middle school play ad book when she was bit by a horse!
The bite broke the skin, nail, and tippy bone in her finger.
Oy vey!
Her pediatrician's office and Yale Children's Hospital Emergency Room staff did an amazing job with us. Every single person we encountered was wonderful.
She's splinted and bandaged for now - no flag twirling, horse back riding, or chores (lol) for awhile. We'll know more after we see the hand specialist early next week.
This certainly falls in the "could have been so much worse" category!
Poor punkin.
