Finding the beauty in junk food...

Creative Every Day/Flickr Project 365 photo for 4/26/2010:

Dinner at Savin Rock, West Haven, CT

A flower by any other color...

Annie conducted a project over the weekend.
Here it is photographed by her...touched up in picassa by me.
Need to leave it at that.
The homeschool vs. building school debate rages in my heart and mind.
Food coloring was used...qualifying this for April's theme of beautiful food.

Lunch...with a view

My beautiful lunch from Wasabi Restaurant in Orange, CT.
So delicious!
It's such a treat to stop for lunch at Wasabi.
The staff and chef are so lovely and the food is wonderfully (and artfully) prepared.
Today was a special treat because I got to eat it with hubby Paul here:

Olive Oil

Olive Oil being warmed in hot water
Emma's hair became very dry from all of her recent fun in Florida.
We performed a DIY at-home "hot oil treatment" tonight.
The bag is off now and Emma's hair is beautifully soft again!

The human soul needs actual beauty more than bread...

Spahhh....

Emma left for Florida today -- away for a week with a friend's family.
WOW!
Last night, before she left, and as Annie and I prepared for our
stay-cation, we had a spa night.
We painted fingers and toes, had berries, and fancy sparkling juice drinks (pictured above).
Fun!
The juice is beautiful, but you should see their fingers and toes!

Beautiful is as beautiful does

There are so many celebrations in our family during March/April!
Based on this theme, it sure looks like we only eat treats!
This photo was taken on Paul's birthday - we started that day with Annie's omelet
and ended it with a delicious chocolate-cherry dessert.
Paul and the girls were blowing out the candle so they're blurred,
but I love the photo. To me it caught a beautiful warm & cozy food moment.

It's a wrap!

My mom makes these incredibly delicious (and beautiful)
green beans wrapped in bacon.
YUM!

A Sundae for Wednesday...

Yum!
Another creation by Annie (who wants
to own a coffee, ice cream, bake shoppe, art gallery when she's older)!
That's a gluten free "graham cracker" up on top.
My sister in law found them recently at Thyme and Season.
Made by Kinnikinnick, these S'moreables were a big hit with my kids!

Hotdogs, beautiful, hotdogs?

Hot dogs, beautiful hot dogs!
We are so lucky that Paul raises pigs here on our property,
Shaggyhill Farm.

We have our own steady supply of nitrate-free, preservative-free
hot dogs made from our own meats.
The hot dogs are smoked for us at Noack's Smokehouse and
the inaugural roasting on a warm April evening
is truly a beautiful food event at our house each year!

A food you can eat while on the swings with your sister ~ perfect!

Of course a healthy, homemade dinner on a stick is nicely
balanced by another special food on a stick.

Yum!

Hard-boiled...

~HaPpY EaStEr~
This beautiful food was prepared with much joy!
Emma's "Strawberry" egg, which inspired...
Annie's "Watermelon" egg.
Emma also made a Florida-themed egg in honor
of her big trip next week!
A clutch of assorted other beauties and as always,
Paul infused some humor...
...with his "No Jokes, I'll Crack Up" egg.
Beautiful food fun!

Hippity, hoppity...

The girls, their friend, and I made this "cut up" cake today.
It's the same bunny cake my mom made with us kids when we were little.
A tradition, it is as much about the cake as it is about making the cake.
This year I modified a Bob's Red Mill Vanilla baking mix by adding a
package of pudding and a cup of sour cream.
Gluten free cakes can be so very
dry and this moistened it right up.
Yum!
This shot is right before we added the green coconut grass
all around the tray.
Beautiful!
